We are collecting data on invasive plant issues to improve our local ecology by removing invasive plants. We particularly want to help our local tree canopy increase by having volunteers remove vines from trees. A healthy, substantial tree canopy is important for regulating heat, improving air quality, supporting biodiversity, managing stormwater, and enhancing human well-being.
A new study has found that “each year-to-year percent increase in canopy was associated with around a 10 percent reduction in mortality.” Many studies show that children are healthier in a neighborhood with trees due to better air quality and a cooler yard allowing them to be outdoors even on a hot day.
