About CIRT

We found that Coastal Virginia needed an invasive plant removal task force to centralize planning, training, education, communications, and event management. Coastal Virginia Removal Team (CIRT) is designed to host events but also track other events to build a comprehensive record of the removals. Tracking of areas needing removal will also be collected to better plan future events as many sites need multiple removals to eradicate invasive plants.

Mission

Bringing together volunteers and other stakeholders to eradicate invasive plants affecting trees in public spaces and help residents to remove invasives from their trees.

Goals

Increase the reach: Work with volunteers and residents in coastal Virginia and NC to spread the program.

Remove invasives: remove vines and other invasive plants that are a threat to our native plants and ecology.

Restore habitats: Replant areas affected by invasives with suitable native plants that support pollinators, butterflies, birds and other animals.

Develop a volunteer network.
